Utah!

Day 1

Flight and RV Pickup

Flights were slightly delayed but once we were in the air it was all about the scenery and electronics. We made it to Las Vegas and were picked up promptly by our RV.  We hit all 4 US time zones:

  • Eastern - Portland, Maine
  • Central - Chicago, IL layover
  • Pacific - Las Vegas, NV
  • Mountain - Utah

The RV! A view of the kids curtained off sleeping area and the kitchen. Drama on the first night, ANTS! After a few trips into Walmart in Mesquite to get supplies and ant traps we were on our way. Luckily Zion Canyon Campground had both RV sites and one spare room in the hotel for Sarah and Brooke to sleep in. Trent and I successfully fought off the ants and they were gone in the morning. Phew!

Heading to Zion...

Day 1 was very long!

Days 2 and 3

Zion

Wow, first morning in the Zion area. This was one of the most scenic campgrounds and a great start to the trip. 2 nights in Zion.

Ready for hiking!

Fun swimming in the, cold, Virgin River. We even brought down a speaker and played some music for the people flowing down in tubes.

We had a great hike up Angel's Landing.

Rattlesnake! This was a real treat to see and hear. Looked like it was about 4 feet long.

We got used to seeing lots of whiptail lizards.

Our legs were really tired after day #1. Nice to sit by the campfire with s'mores treats.

On day 2, we did a short hike to see Weeping Rock (water oozing out of the rocks) before we left Zion.  This was Lower Emerald Pool.

The Mount Carmel tunnel was really neat. We were large enough to force it to be one-way as we went through (of course we had to pay).

And we arrived in Bryce Canyon!
